Schlicht und einfach ein Meisterstück von Pete Souza, sowohl seine fotografische Arbeit aus acht Jahren US-Präsidentschaft von Barack Obama, als auch dieser geschichtsgewaltige Bildband. Souza hat es auf faszinierende Weise geschafft, Obama zu begleiten, ohne ihn zu glorifizieren. Herausgekommen ist ein Buch, das gerade einmal genügend Text enthält, um Bilder in den historischen Kontext einzuordnen, den Rest machen die großformatigen Bilder und Serien mit politischen, gesellschaftlichen und familiären Szenen. Eine atemberaubende Achterbahnfahrt zwischen Schmunzeln, Berührung, Staunen und Wehmut. Ein Buch, das man immer wieder in die Hand nimmt und stundenlang Geschichte erzählt.
Ich folge Pete Souza auf Instagram schon seit einer ganzen Weile.Und dieses Buch ist einfach eine tolle Sammlung wunderbarer Fotos und schöner Geschichten und Erinnerungen.Pete hat einen tollen Blick für fotogene Gelegenheiten. Manchmal wirklich nur aus Zufall, manchmal fast gestellt - aber immer sehenswert.Leider hab ich ihn persönlich hier in Berlin verpasst, um meine Ausgabe noch signieren zu lassen - das hätte das Ganze nochmal getoppt :)Aber grundsätzlich: Wer Obama mochte und noch immer mag - für den bringt dieses Buch viele schöne Erinnerungen und Geschichten zurück. Dafür eine klare Kaufempfehlung!(Und bitte jetzt keine Diskussionen/Bemerkungen darüber, wer Obama mag oder nicht, oder was er politisch alles angestellt hat und was nicht... darum geht es hier NICHT und ich will es auch nicht hören/lesen.)
In case you have forgotten the good old days when there was a civilized person occupying the highest office of the land...this book will help you through the next couple of years. There are many others by the official WH photographer and they're all fab, but this is the one we have. Sniff.
Ein fantastisches Buch. Die Fotografien von Pete Souza sind weit mehr als bloß eine Bilddokumentation. Es sind Zeitzeugnisse von einem der herausragendsten und humorvollsten Präsidenten, den die Vereinigten Staaten jemals hatten.
I am very happy I bought this book. A book for the grandchildren to help them with their history lesson. This book sits 50 cm away from me on a small stand in the living room. This is not sitting in the bookshelf hiding away from public.
Auch a wonderful book which I was lucky to have Pete Souza sign for me in person. I bought it as gifts too - UK, US, and German editions. Highly recommend.

Außergewöhliche Aufnahmen mit hoher fotografischer Professionalität von einem außergewöhlichen Präsidenten. Es gab sicherlich nur wenige Personen im weißen Haus, die so dicht am Präsidenten waren.
